Waking up bright and early, will be met by your safari guide who will pick you from your hotel and transfer you to Bwindi Forest. We’ll stop at the Uganda equator line to take some photos as you stand on its ‘imaginary’ line – you’re literally on the split of the Northern and Southern Hemisphere! Continue to Mbarara town, the home of the long horned Ankole cattle, where you will have lunch. Proceed through the rolling hills of the beautiful countryside until we reach Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Check into your lodge for dinner.

Today will be the highlight of our safari. After a sumptuous breakfast, we’ll take you to the park headquarters to be briefed by the park rangers about the mountain gorillas. At 8:00a.m. you will set out into the impenetrable forest in groups led by park guides and rangers. The trekking duration is determined by the movements of the gorillas. Upon finding them, in accordance with the park regulations, you will spend a maximum of an hour with the gorilla family observing their amazing way of life. People have been known to break down in tears after their first encounter with these amazing animals.
Later in the evening you can choose to visit the Batwa pygmy community. The Batwa are a semi-pygmoid tribe who previously lived within the tropical forests that covered much of southern Uganda. They spread all the way into DRC and Rwanda but as the forests disappeared, so did they. The few remaining Ugandan Batwa tribe people now live outside the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. They were forced out when the forest was turned into a National Park. Learn more about this on the tour and the guide will be more than happy to answer any questions. Drive to Lake Bunyonyi
Overnight: Birdnest Lake Bunyonyi (Luxury option) or Lake Bunyonyi rock Resort (Midrange option)

After the unforgettable but tiring trek in the Bwindi Forest the previous day, it’s time to relax on the shores of beautiful Lake Bunyonyi. The lake doesn’t get as much publicity as it should — it is absolutely amazing. The green pastures, its 29 scattered islands on the lake and the friendliness of the locals make it an advert for natural beauty and a perfect relaxation sanctuary. Take an optional boat cruise on the lake to some of the islands. The lake is free from crocodiles, hippos and bilharzia – so feel free to take a dip! Lake Bunyonyi has a maximum depth of 900m making it the third deepest lake in the world and also the second deepest in Africa.
